Pediatric Medical Team
Our medical nursing team is composed of Nurse Practitioners, Nurses (RN) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA). They provide various levels of medical support, care planning & coordination, and symptom management.
Nurse Practitioners (PNP)
Our Nurse Practitioners provide the following layers of support to our patients:
- Medical decision making
- Physical exams
- Develop treatment plans
- Care coordination alongside the referring primary care team
- Medication management: Prescription adjustment of medication
- Advanced care planning
- Pain & Symptom management
The nursing team will make frequent home visits to assess and initiate any changes needed in care, notifying the physicians and nurse practitioners on the team when changes to the care plan are warranted. Our nursing team completes medication reviews and make adjustments as your child’s condition changes. They collaborate with the entire team, including the primary team if they remain involved, to provide as much in-home/out-of-hospital care as possible. They also work closely with the child’s school and school nurse, if the child still wishes to participate in school. Our nursing team will also brainstorm with patients and families for creative solutions to find equipment, medications, and other resources that could be helpful.
Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA)
Our Certified Nursing Assistant will assist patients in providing activities of daily living including bath and showering, along with other tasks. The CNA at KidsCare of the Rockies will also be there for patients’ who need another companion by their side.
The KidsCare of the Rockies psychosocial team includes chaplain support, a licensed clinical social worker and child life specialist. Each plays an important role in encouraging a patient’s mental, emotional and spiritual development.
Our chaplain’s mission is to lend a supportive ear to a patient who may need someone to talk to who understands their pain and can guide them through adverse circumstances. She can help patients find their spiritual center and assist them with counseling, emotional help, grief support and memorial/funeral service coordination.
Our social worker will work with the patients and their families to provide assistance and referrals to community and financial resources. She advocates on the behalf of the patient and family to ensure that they receive all the support they need. Additionally, our social worker assists caregivers with coping techniques to help them manage emotional stress they may develop.
Child Life Specialist (CCLS)
Our Certified Child Life Specialist at KidsCare of the Rockies provides multiple layers of support to patients and their siblings. Their support includes:
- Providing developmentally appropriate interventions to promote understanding and normalcy, including therapeutic play
- Assisting with creating coping techniques to reduce fear, pain and anxiety
- Delivering emotional/grief support & processing
Our music therapist will coordinate activities using music that will cater to your child’s individual needs. Music therapy promotes relaxation and conscious awareness of feelings and emotions. Our music therapist will observe your child’s physical or cognitive state and construct a plan involving music to stimulate their mind and relax their body.
Massage Therapist (RN, LMT)
Our massage therapist provides massage therapy to promote relaxation, improved quality of sleep and decreased pain. A wide variety of massage techniques are utilized, allowing for highly specialized treatment plans.
Our executive team will provide assistance navigating the Medicaid system to ensure that the patient and family receives coverage and assistance under the correct plan. The executive team will assist with nursing responsibilities when needed.
