Pediatric Medical Team
Our medical nursing team is composed of Nurse Practitioners, Nurses (RN) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA). These professional provide various levels of medical support, care planning & coordination, and symptom management. Learn more about each of them below:
Nurse Practitioners (PNP)
Our Nurse Practitioners assist in the following medical procedures for our patients:
- Medical decision making
- Physical exams
- Develop treatment plans
- Care coordination alongside the referring primary care team
- Medication management: Prescription adjustment of medication
- Advanced care planning
- Pain & Symptom management
Our nursing team staff will make frequent visits to your home to assess, document and implement any changes needed in care, notifying the physicians and nurse practitioners on the team when changes to the care plan are warranted, doing their best to make adjustments as your child’s condition changes.
They will collaborate with the entire hospice care team to provide as much in-home/out-of-hospital care as possible, and work closely with your child’s school and school nurse, if they wish to remain in school. Our nursing team will also brainstorm with patients and families to identify creative solutions to support your child and help them thrive.
Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA)
Our Certified Nursing Assistants assist our patients in providing activities of daily living including bath and showering, and other routine tasks such as eating, dressing, toileting and moving around the home.
The KidsCare of the Rockies psychosocial team includes chaplain support, licensed clinical social workers, and child life specialists. Each plays an important role in supporting a child’s mental, emotional and spiritual development.
The role of our hospice care chaplains is to listen to our patients, counsel them (when appropriate) and make them feel safe. Moreover, they also will work with children to assess their lives positively, help them to find meaning and joy in their lives. They may also have heartfelt discussions with patients or their families, helping them address the situation in the context of their beliefs.
Our social workers work with our patients and their families to provide assistance and referrals to community and financial resources. In this way, they serve as primary advocates on the behalf of the patient and their family to ensure that they receive all the support they need. Social workers also assist patients and caregivers in learning effective coping techniques to help them manage emotional stress they may develop.
Child Life Specialists (CCLS)
Our child life specialists are responsible for enabling our patients to feel comfortable in the overall healthcare environment. As such, child life specialists perform a variety of roles and duties that enhance the wellbeing of children while in they undergo treatment. By helping children and their families feel at ease about anything they may encounter, child care services inform patients on what to expect and ensure that everyone has a positive healthcare experience.
Aligning with the goals of pediatric palliative care, the primary aim of a music therapist is to use music-based interventions to improve the quality of life for patients by relieving their physical and psychological symptoms, facilitating communication and alleviating stress. Our music therapist will coordinate music-based activities and techniques that will cater to your child’s individual needs and help stimulate their mind and relax their body.
Massage Therapists (RN, LMT)
Our hospice massage therapist provide medically prescribed massage therapy to our patients in ways that positively enhance their quality of life. Hospice massage therapists will come prepared, knowing a patients symptoms, medical history, and care-goals, and use this information to tailor the massage for each client. At KidsCare of the Rockies, our expert hospice massage therapists will work with your child to tailor their massage to their unique care-needs and level-of-comfort, ensuring that a positive, beneficial experience 100% of the time.
